Grand Theft Friday

How to get on

Three steps. Twenty-five minutes, most of it waiting.

  1. Get GTA V

Own it already on Steam, Epic or Rockstar? You're set — launch it once so it's updated and signed in.

If not: search "GTA V Steam key" and take your pick of the usual key shops — about a tenner most weeks — or wait for a Steam sale. It has to be the PC version; consoles can't do custom servers.

  2. Install FiveM

FiveM is a separate launcher, not a mod, and nothing to do with GTA Online. Think of it as a fancy server browser: it plugs into the GTA you already own and lets it connect to private, custom servers like this one instead of Rockstar's. It's the standard, legal way everyone plays modded GTA servers — it won't touch your Rockstar account or get you banned from Online, because the two never overlap.

Download it from fivem.net — that site and no other. Install it, then run it once and leave it alone for a few minutes while it builds its cache off your GTA install. It looks like nothing's happening. It's fine.

  3. Connect

Open FiveM, press F8 to drop the console down, type the line below and hit enter. F8 again closes it once you're in.
